Dr. Joshua Dines is an orthopedic surgeon on the Sports Medicine and Shoulder Service at Hospital for Special Surgery. He is a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. 

 

Dr. Dines specializes in surgery for sports-related injuries of athletes at all levels. His experience treating professional athletes stems from his work as a team doctor for the NY Mets, NY Rangers, US Davis Cup Tennis team and the LA Dodgers. Additionally, he is the Medical Director for Major League Pickleball.

As a researcher, Dr. Dines has published more than 300 original research articles with a focus on injuries to overhand athletes (baseball and tennis players), tendon injuries and shoulder joint preservation. He routinely lectures nationally and internationally. His novel research on the use of growth factors and biologics to enhance tendon healing has resulted in national awards. Dr. Dines has edited 6 textbooks relating to shoulder and elbow surgery as well as sports medicine.

Prior to joining the Sports Medicine Institute at HSS, Dr. Dines graduated from Dartmouth College and Weill Cornell Medical College. He did his residency at HSS where, during his final year, he won the award for excellence in research. Dr. Dines completed his sports medicine fellowship at the prestigious Kerlan Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles where he worked as part of the medical staff for the LA Dodgers, the LA Kings and Anaheim Ducks, and served as an assistant to the team physician of the LA Lakers. For the last 10 years, he has been featured in New York Magazine’s Best Doctors and Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors in America.
