Dr. Tobias Winkler, MD, PhD

Dr. Tobias Winkler, MD, PhD, is a specialist in orthopedic and trauma surgery at the Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery (CMSC) of Charité Berlin. He studied Human Medicine at the University of Vienna, graduating in 2002. During his studies, he was part of a research team focused on nerve regeneration at the University Clinics of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Following his military service, he pursued a PhD at the Medical University of Vienna, completing it in 2007.
Dr. Winkler is the head of the Clinical Department for Advanced Therapies at the Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery of Charité Berlin. His research is conducted at the Julius Wolff Institute and the Berlin Institute of Health Center for Regenerative Therapies, where he leads a team focuses on the translation of advanced therapies for musculoskeletal indications.
Since 2017, Dr. Winkler has been the coordinator of the EU consortium HIPGEN, which conducts a multinational project on cell therapy for muscle trauma. Since 2022, he has also been a coordinator of the EU Horizon Europe consortium PROTO, aimed at developing cell therapy and immunomodulating biomechanical interventions for osteoarthritis.
Dr. Winkler holds the Professorship in Regenerative Orthopedics and Traumatology at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Berlin Institute of Health.
